RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS/CHILDREN (RCIA/RCIC) :
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults/Children (RCIA/RCIC) is a process of conversion through which a faith community journeys with individuals called either to new life in Christianity and the sacraments of initiation or the completion of the sacraments of initiation for uncatechized Catholics or Christians seeking full communion in the Catholic Church from another Christian tradition. RCIA is a process and NOT a program. It is an ongoing process of conversion adapted to the needs and call of each individual seeking a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church.
It is a significant period of a person's faith journey marked by personal discernment of God's call in their lives, prayer, formation, learning about the Church and her Tradition, and experiencing the Body of Christ in the form of a parish's RCIA team and the entire parish community that welcomes these newly initiated brothers and sisters into their family of faith through the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist).
RCIA at OLSS is open to those adults and children- seven years old and above that have not been baptized and are seeking to join the Catholic church. Classes meet on Sundays during the school year.
Individuals will receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism-Confirmation-Communion) at the Easter Vigil Mass the following Spring. Call the church office or contact the Parish's Coordinator of Religious Education, Danielle Bennette-Dukes.
