I am Rev. Léon Ngandu, SVD, a Divine Word Missionary (SVD) Priest. I became an Ordained priest on May 27, 2012, in my home country of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on the continent of Africa.
I arrived in the United States in 2013. Because French is my first language, I studied English at Divine Word College in Epworth, Iowa, from August 2013 to May 2014. I am well known for the revivals, missions, retreats, and sessions I preach nationwide.
My love for the Word of God (Bible) has been displayed throughout my life and ministry. I am the author of “May It Be Done to Me According to Your Word,” a book about my life and journey to the priesthood.
Here is a timeline of my priestly ministry thus far:
July 1, 2014- February 2015: Associate pastor at St. Augustine’s in North Little Rock, St. Bartholomew’s in Little Rock, and full-time chaplain at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.
February 2015- June 2016: Administrator at St. Mary’s and St. Patrick’s, both in North Little Rock, and full-time chaplain at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. July 2016 – June 2018: Associate pastor at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Lafayette, Louisiana. July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2023: Pastor at St. Augustine’s and St. Bartholomew’s, chaplain at the hospital Saint Vincent (1 year), and the Bible teacher and chaplain at Mount St. Mary’s High School in Little Rock, Arkansas (4 years).
Since July 1, 2023: I have been assigned as your pastor. I am the coordinator of Biblical Apostolate for all the parishes where the SVD missionaries work in the Southern part of the USA.
In addition to my work in our Parish, I am completing my master’s in biblical theology at the Catholic University of Dallas. I pray that God bless all of us so that together we build God’s kingdom in our parish, Our Lady Star of the Sea, and our families. Amen.
